Halston
One of the greatest American designers of the twentieth century was undoubtedly Roy Halston Frowick, known simply as Halston. Halston became synonymous with decadence, privilege, and the good life. He chose simple, flattering styles with only the highest quality cut and materials. This is the essence of the American sportswear movement which Halston pioneered. Leather, suede, jersey, and satin were favorites. And his classic menswear-inspired pant suits, goddess gowns, and halter dresses were stylish, simple, and functional. Somehow the spare styles in the luxurious materials captured the zeitgeist of the seventies, an era when people did not feel like they had to wear their politics on their sleeves.
